Frodingham Nature Reserve

Frodingham Nature Reserve - 3 acres Scunthorpe
Frodingham Nature Reserve was the first local nature reserve within North Lincolnshire. The reserve is owned by Scunthorpe General Hospital and leased by NLC.

Wildlife
The reserve is managed as a wildlfower meadow with a wealth of flowers, insects and other wildlife. The common spotted orchid dominates the landscape during the summer months.
The wild flowers make the reserve a butterfly haven. Regular visits during the warmer months should produce up to 20 species. Watch for the pretty common blue which lays its eggs on the yellow birds-foot trefoil.
The site has wet boggy areas and a small pond which attracts amphibians. The wooded perimeter and close proximity of Brumby Woodland LNR attracts a wide variety of birds.

Management
Scrub clearance is undertaken annually to prevent the reserve converting to woodland. Mowing is undertaken in rotation to provide a total cut every 3 years. Mowing is undertaken in the autumn months to allow wild flowers time to seed and the arisings are removed to prevent nutrient enrichment.
